Just a note to let you know....Dad had his first treatment today and all went very well. I went with him and it only took a few minutes. He is quite a guy....drove himself up here and we met at Wendy's and had lunch. We put his truck underground at her Condo and then we stopped at the grocery store for a couple things. We stopped at the Cancer Lodge and got him safely installed. He has a room with 2 beds but will move to a single room when one is available. It is a lovely place. There are 4 sitting rooms with big reclining chairs, TVs, pool table, exercise equipment, puzzles, card games, pool table, shuffle board and on and on. There is a computer room ...so I very gently suggested that 85 was a good time to get started!!! I doubt he will take me up on it!!! They have washing machines for laundry and provide lovely meals with all kinds of baking, juices, tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. etc. etc. Even though it is right across the street from the Allan Blair Clinic they provide a driver to get him to and from his appointments. He just can't walk that far....and besides getting across Dewdney is literally taking ones own life in your very own hands. It seems the traffic doesn't recognize the pedestrian lights at the crosswalk!! Wendy and I went back tonite after supper just to check up on him. We found him sleeping in a recliner in front of the TV!! Same as at home!!! We were wandering around and saw a name on the door next to Dad....guess what...Lloyd and Nellie Carr from Weyburn...from our very own church!!! Lloyd is having treatments as well and they just moved in today so will be there for the same duration as Dad...7 weeks. Nellie actually recognized Wendy and I when we came in. The door on the other side of Dad...says Lionel Doud...and the Doud crew all hail from Colfax...a small town just north of our farm. So I am sure he will have company. He is just a bit worried about what he will do all day long. Dad is not much of a sit arounder!! Wendy made arrangements with Don to pick Dad up and take him to Patrick's restaurant for lunch...so that will help. I don't know if I posted this prior or not... Don is not well right now and actually spent Christmas and New Years in the hospital. He has an enlarged heart...so is off work and taking medication. Don is at loose ends a bit these days so it may work out to our advantage since Wendy and I work during the day. We can go to the lodge and have supper with Dad whenever we want and will probably do that at least once a week.
I am going back to work tomorrow ....I have been off the last couple of days...the bacteria has not quite vacated yet and I have been down since last Thursday (Jan 11). I was at the Dr. yesterday...all of my tests results are perfect(blood, cholesterol etc.) except a bit of bacteria is st
move on shortly.
