Shermac Farm

I should have given an explanation here....My mother's Dad homesteaded here in 1898...he came west from Nottawasaga, Ontario as a stowaway on a cattle car in 1892 when he was 16 or 17 years old. He got off the train at Indian Head and walked to his brother Issac's farm at Balcarres. He worked for other farmers in the area until they opened up the land in 1898. Grandad and a couple of other farmers walked to Weyburn to stake their claims. Grandad, so the story goes, camped on the bank of the river (the trees in the background run along the river) with a covered wagon & horses he purchased just after he took out the patent at 2-10-15. Grandad farmed here until 1950 when my Dad took over. The name Shermac is a combination of Grandad's last name Sherrick and my last name McFadden.

Very interesting family history. And to think it's still in the family.
